In February 1768 Laurence Sterne published A Sentimental Journey through France and Italy. A few weeks later, this celebrated author died.
There will be a feast of events throughout 2018 to mark the 250-year anniversary of these important occasions, and to celebrate Sterne’s life, work, and legacy.
Among them, a major international conference was held at Jesus College, Cambridge on 18-21 March 2018.
This year will also see a host of Sterne-related publications, including a major essay collection foregrounding the significance of A Sentimental Journey.
Sterne journal The Shandean, to be published later this year, will also feature fresh scholarship addressing Sterne’s work and legacy, including papers delivered at the Cambridge conference.
